Hi,

due to a broken laptop I did not have mail access since May, 10th and so my report is late:

Operating:

01.05. I worked DL1YMK/CX on 23cm as first DL/CX on 23cm completing the WAC on 23cm

03.05. I worked DL1YMK/CX on 13cm as first DL/CX on 13cm, also PA3CSG, OK1KIR and WW2R#

10.05. 23cm-DUBUS-Contest:
on Saturday moonrise worked
09:15UTC SP6JLW, OK1DFC, OZ6OL, SD3F, VK4AFL, G3LTF, SV1BTR, OK1CA, VK3UM, IK2MMB, EV5M, JA6CZD, ON5RR, SV3AAF, ES5PC, DL4DTU, PA0BAT, UT6JCW, HB0/DF1SR, JA6AHB, HB9SV, IK3COJ, 13:31UTC RD3DA

Then, during a exciting experiment with CW-Skimmer, my Laptop that I am using for waterfall and tracking, suddenly crashed and was not able to restart. Unfortunately I did not have any other replacement PC with XP.

Without waterfall support, I worked in the evening
19:06 DL1YMK/CX, F2TU, DF3RU

But without waterfall it does not make fun that way. And so for the next 24h together with my son I only tried to install XP on my other PC, always failing due to what at the end showed up as an error in the 1GB memory chip. Late sunday evening I found that another PCs 256k memory chip works fine and was able to reinstall XP on that PC, so I was back
19:01UTC DL1YMK/CX, NY2Z, LA2Z, NA4N, IW2FZR, G3LQR, OK1KIR, N2UO, OE9ERC, PA3FXB, VE6TA, IQ4DF, OZ4MM, WA6PY, K4QI, SM5LE, F5WJF, 21:28 UTC ON4BCB

43 stations at all, around 5 new initals on 23cm, thanks a lot for the fun...

On May, 12th I changed to 70cm for a sked with DL1YMK/CX, I am measuring about 8.3dB sun noise (SFI=68) there, so quite useable. Unfortunately I did not recognize that my sked time was shifted since my mail was broken, too, and so I missed Michael for a 3-band-CX. Not a that big problem, because I had worked South America many years ago and WAC 70cm is already hanging on my wall.

Technical:

I am now using a G4DDK kit made preamp measuring 0.3dB NF on 23cm and 0.45dB on 13cm. Let me emphasize that this preamp is the first which claimed such a good NF and was reproducible! I did many tries in the past, and they all failed. So Sam, here is my respect to your work!
Dish is 4.5m f/D=0.32, always round septum polarizer feed with chapperal choke rings
23cm RX 0.3dB NF, TX TH347
13cm RX 0.45dB NF, TX 2x MRF21120 about 150W at the feed

At least since the SSB contest, the bias circuit of my TH347 shows an effect that one of the pieces there occassionally shorts and so the bias suddenly rises to >1A. No problem for the tube. So I had set the tubes initial bias to 100mA, which gives about 500W out, and with 1A bias it is >1kW out. Maybe some have noticed me becoming quite stronger during a TX period, it then was due to this effect. Due to this I wanted to TX as less as possible and so I did not CQ during the contest. Probably it is at all an idea for limiting the dissipation at least for CW to switch the bias directly with keying. Somehow a kind of Doherty modulation?

73, Günter, DL4MEA
