Hello All,
Sadly Frank and I have to inform you that our planned ZB dxpedition end of
this month is now cancelled.
Why? There are changes in reciprocal licensing in ZB land effective as of
July 2007 (oh how we were lucky that we went there in April 2007). The main
changes are that there is NO HF reciprocal license granted any more and that
on 2m and 6m the maximum radiated power is limited to 100 watts ERP (!). Use
of linear amps is forbidden altogether.
When applying for a "high power permit" with the Gibraltar Regulatory
Authority GRA, they wrote us that they can't do so for the reasons quoted
above but since the new rules "were decided in close consultation with the
Gibraltar Radio Amateur Society GRAS" we were advised to appeal to them
(GRAS) and they (GRA) would then wait on their decision taken.
So we did appeal to them by letter, by email and by fax and we did not
receive any response from them.
As we already incurred costs for our hotels during the the transfer to ZB,
we now had to cancel this activity to comply with our Gibraltar hotel's
cancellation policy.
We are very sorry for this because we have been looking very much forward to
this dxpedition (in fact, also hoping for some sporadic E openings) but
there was no choice. Should the GARS position change we will be the first to
conduct a dxpedition to ZB land.
Now we plan for activating GJ (1st priority) or GU (2nd priority) via 2m EME
in October 2008, most probably around the 19th.
