ARRL, EME and CPC
CW is the ultimate way of small signal communication among radio amateurs.
Even thogh it may seem a bit old fashioned to exchange dots and dashes, it
is communication by the human ear and radio equipment.
There are new attempts to communicate using the computer to enhance the
ability of identifiying signals below noise level. Some of them use
databases of known information to be added to fragments of information
really received on the RF path. I consider these techniques interesting and
worth profiling in the future, however, this does not qualify to the
standards set by the amateur radio community for a valid QSO. The full
callsign and a signal report has to be received on the RF path (not just
delivered by the computer).
EME stands for Earth-Moon-Earth (RF path). CPC stands for
Copy-pasted-Callsign or Computer-produced-Contact.

Betreff: [Moon] ARRL Contest????
IS THIS really true?
How is this possible that W7GJ and W5UN with the help of you know who (K1JT)
have changed the rules for the ARRL EME contest.
Once up on a time this was the number 1 contest for us EME´rs, but now its
destroyed.
I thought that W5UN and W7GJ with their big antennas and long time skill
would not count as newcomers??????????????????????
WHY?
Isnt fantastic that one man alone managed to destroy this fantastic part of
the hobby?
By just creating a software that needs to have internet connection to work
proper and not to forget the database on hard disk.
What is the challenge ? In my point of view.
I can only speak for my self but when you manage to work a weaki on CW EME
where it can take maybe all between from first call to 60 min before
getting the calling stations callsign, or maybe i have to give up because he
is to weak, well maybe i catch him next time. thats what i call an effort,
and i will feel satisfied.
Is there any satisfaction sitting there and type the QSO information on the
Computer and on to a logger? I thought that we are radio amateurs, not CPU
amateurs
Is there a solution?
No i dont think so as long as there are to many cheaters around, the
newcomers learn by them.
The best way is to continue hammering the key, participate in the contest
and sending protest logs, with the text participated but due to rules not
sending any scores. Or more drastically not participate.
