Hi Bodo, compliments for the choice of examples. I completely agree with you
that progress from spark transmitters includes present day digital modes and
loggers. Eme started with cw, and it was a very difficult task both to find
and to decode signals. Technically it is still a very exacting task, an eme
capable station is not something you just buy commercially. But we can now
decode a lot more stations, and a lot of new emers have joined the ranks. So
I have a great respect for the cw old-timers, but do not wish to live in the
past, digital eme is the new frontier. And since a qso is a contact in
which, by radio means, one exchanges calls and reports, the fact that you
prearrange qrg and also the fact that you know in advance which calls should
appear on the screen, does NOT invalidate the qso conducted through the
moon. I imagine that you also have troubled with visual identification of
feeble traces and used all the possible tricks to force a decode. Also this
is made with your brain, as cw lovers like to underline for their case. I
have worked random in some contests, and I just made less qsos than when I
operated assisted. They are just two different approaches, which both lead
to valid qsos.
