Hello Gerald & All
First of all sri for my longish mail but making specific references
and epxlaining the reason why, is not easy for me to put it down in a
few sentences.
I disagree with you in that separation of cw and digital Contest and
awards to ARRL, has to come from the cw side in the present & future.
Hundreds, thousands of private e-mails, public ones, letters also etc.
have been sent by cw stations from 2m-70cm-23cm to ARRL regarding
Separation for the last 5-6 years to say the least.
But what has happened? Nothing!
In the meantime, digital numbers were accumulating exactly because
ARRL-K1JT ignored the rightful request of Separation by mode from cw
stations.
Why digital numbers have grown ? (apart from the fact than jt65 eme is
very easy to do)
a. because of logger QSOs for the vast majority all year long
b. because of extensive Deep Search for/from most expeditions
c. because of 2m DXCC in no-time since nowhere real effort was
depicted, as K1JT did nothing to put forward our proposal to ARRL
(F5VHX, SV1BTR, N1BUG) for mode stickers on DXCC. As well as did
nothing to ever accomodate the cw stations views who asked for
Separation on Awards.
(Joe if you want to argue on this i could always present in public
what you have written in private to me long time ago, as well as on
many other matters relevant to this e-mail, which will prove what i am
saying. I think it is more proper though to not have to do so.)
d. because of irregularities in no disqualifications of logs violating
the Contest rules
e. because including 2006 contest, all modes were competing together
f. because of Moon-net continuous censorship, thus no balanced opinions
g. etc, a lot of reasons can be listed
For 7 years we were totally ignored by ARRL & K1JT inner wishes &
relevant internal actions. And because in those very same years
digital numbers have grown, we must be again the ones asking for
strict separation for EME Contest & Awards?
I do not think so!
The move must come from K1JT now asking for it, as he has brought all
these matters to where they stand now (not to forget that he
masterminded n0uk logger also, through Chris n0uk).
And anyone from the mixed and digital stations who cares about
fairness and restoring the relationship between the 2 communities
should ask for Strict Separation from ARRL.
Marko LZ2US recent post explained the reason why, well.
I will use myself as an example:
1. if i wanted, i could have gotten 2m DXCC 5-6 yrs ago, if i added
jt44/jt65 in my operating list.
2. but I am not at all interested to get a DXCC award which does not
mention mode of operation and especially one that combines unequal
effort.
3. if i continue to be qrv on ARRL EME Contest for example, Multiband
50-1296MHz Analog mode i can be first for upcoming 2008 Contest
results for sure (now that i have added 23cm). For example in past 3
years i was in places 1-2 even when all modes were under the same
entry class.
For the reasons discussed, 1-2-3 above do not interest me at all
though, if separation between analog and digital modes for ARRL EME
Contest & Awards is not met. I know of many cw eme stations who think
exactly the same.
So for 2008 Contest for example, if no initiative is taken from K1JT &
friends in the direction the cw community is asking for the last 7
years, (Strict Separation) then, no problem. We will not participate
and/or submit logs anymore.
Then it can become an almost all digital, for the lower bands
(2m-70cm) at least, eme Contest. However, in recent years i see
honorable, leading and extremely respected 23cm EME stations following
for the same reasons, the same direction (HB9BBD, K5JL, K1RQG et al).
So i won't be surprised to see noticeable absences from future ARRL
EME Contest, even on 23cm , where cw is the preferred mode of operation.
Both through no logs submission and/or through no presence at all.
As i wrote in one of my previous public mails, the patience of many cw
stations in this Separation by mode - ARRL Awards & Contest matter -
, has run out.
Simple as that.
