To All,
I started to call CQ on 144.050.5 at 30 minutes before the end of the
contest. Elevation was about 35 deg and noise floor reduced by about 20 dB
from the noise floor at few degrees elevation, but still was 12 dB over 50
ohm termination. I could hear weak echoes. Someone called me, I could find
this signals quite easy about 80 Hz above my echoes frequency. Signal was
too low in the noise and I was not able to copy. Noise was also kind of
choppy in amplitude what makes reception extra difficult.
I wonder what the source of this kind of extra noise can be when this hot
Santa Ana winds blows from the desert?
I found this kind of strong noise few times in the past, but I never
conected winds with the noise. This time I find the same observation
reported by Bob K6PF.
