Hi Sven. I believe there are some explanations for this. I can tell you after many many years of eme on 1296 ( 432 is different because there are polarisation issues) that it is almost a law of eme that big stations do not hear as well as you would expect them to ... but before some of them go beserk at me let me say that there are exceptions. Seriously though, if you are a small station then you have to spend a lot of time tweaking everything to get it right, and with lots of careful measurements of all parameters( which are the key) and you have published lots of good stuff on your website on what you have done in this area.
I think what happens sometimes is that with say, 1kW, into the feed of an 8 m dish the echoes are at the level of hearing damage! So it all sounds absolutely fantastic even though it may be a dB off (or more) and perhaps... I say perhaps... there is not the incentive to put in the effort to get those dBs back. Also, lets face it, its often a lot easier to work on a small dish than a big one, adjusting focus and trying different feeds and choke positions and so on.
BUT....it is a big help to be right on the frequency of the other guys echoes ( unless its a real pile up situation) and I have known you to sometimes be quite a long way off when you have called me and we have had QSOs so maybe this is the next step for you to work on.
( As our first VHF QSO was in about 1962 on MS I know you wont be offended by my saying that!)
Sven, you are an inspirer to us all with your system ... keep at it!

"High degradation hits small dish" is the headline for this week end.

Sutter day was reasonable with 5 QSO: s in 6 hours.
BUT Sunday was very bad 1 QSO in 7 hours !
Why is that so? Is one way propagation possible even with circular pol ? (Something else than Faraday) or was it just that the high degradation, 1.8 dB, is significant for a 2.2 m dish ?

  1st day worked: G4CCH, RW1AW, IW2FZR, OK1CA, DF3RU and F2TU.

  2nd day worked: only ON7UN.
Hrd and called like hel.. sorry , like very much was: SM4DHN, K1RQG, K9SLQ, K5JL and K5SO. (Do I hear to good for my 250 W @ feed?)
Hrd in QSO: SV1OE and SP6JLW.

The Sked with K0ALL was NIL. First sked time I was not QRV because I did not get any sked list. Was looking on Internet for K1RQG: s sked list but find only old ones. Now I have find out that I should ask for a "membership" on a mail list "Net Notes by K1RQG" (thanks info Howard).

CU next time in low degradation and high declination
  /Sven SM5LE

Ps What the difference between MOON_NET and Moonbounce mailing lists?
