Hello,
some time ago I asked around how to clean a 13cm transverter. The unit got wet from rain entering through the roof's cable outlet. Not just moisture, real rain drops in the unit. And power was applied during this. It was absolutly ugly.
Luis, CT1DMK, told me to use tooth paste and alcohol. Drink the alcohol until you are courageous enougth to use tooth paste. Last joking.
Just in the first, apply tooth paste and alcohol and brush it. Repeat that. At the end, wash it away with clean and hot water.
I used cheap, white tooth paste and methylated spirit (Spiritus).
The unit came out clean and shining.
Another problem was that some of the pins under voltage had been anodized away. Finding out which wasn't a big problem, mostly all voltage regulators, one pin of the power switching relay and finally also one of a filter. None of the trimmer capacitors (Sky capacitors 5pF (green)) had to be replaced, even so none of the potentiometers.
Meanwhile the unit is back working as nothing had happend.
