[Moon] OT - FT736 power control problem

Sorry this is a bit off topic, but maybe someone here can help.

A local amateur has an FT736 which hasn't been used for while, but he is
working on a PA for 70cm and was hoping to be QRV at some point.
Unfortunately he seems to have a power control problem with the 736:

"My Yaesu 736 now seems to have a power control problem, as when the drive
control is set anywhere other than max eg. half way, then the power level is
unstable and varies by itself."

Anyone experienced this before, or have any ideas.
