I had reported a virus problem, last Sunday (one week ago), that I could
not correct myself.
After lengthy telephone calls (no charge), the problem was solved and I was
able to eliminate the virus.
The procedure (from Microsoft) was to first remove the Windows "RESTORE"
software from the computer. The next step was to go to:
http://safety.live.com
OR
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm
which is the Microsoft webpage to cure problems like this.
Then click: "Full Service Scan"
After this is completed, The "Trojan" was removed. The "Restore"
function of "XP" was reinstalled.
I "uninstalled" "Windows Live One Care" and now am only using McCafee,
Win-Clean, and Ad-Aware in addition to the built-in Windows XP components
("Win-Clean" is a great program that removes ALL existing cookies).
I have downloaded the recommended "AVAST" but have not installed it yet.
It seems to me that using "Windows Live One Care" was nothing but trouble,
although the live support that I received was unequaled in courtesy and
intent on helping me solve my problems. Even if the software is not very
good, it is nice to know that you have a helping hand that is determined
to make you satisfied. They (Microsoft) even called me back during the
middle of the week to see that everything was OK.
Several of you suggested that I switch to the LINUX OS. That may be a
good suggestion for those younger than I but I am an old dog who is not
willing to learn new tricks. I have been with Bill Gates stuff since
his IBM DOS and MS-DOS 2.1 and I already spend too much time at the
keyboard.
Thanks for all of your assistance.
73,
Jerry W7QX
