tnx for your very interesting report! Whatever was the reason you were not  
as successful as you (and everybody else involved) had hoped to be, it still is 
 just for this kind of activities that CW-EME-DXpeditioning is the most  
challenging kind of ham radio, though. Although I'm not active on 2m EME I just  
say 'Thank you' on behalf of everybody involved in CW-EME these days, no matter 
 on what band.
And as a word of comfort to you: it surely wasn't for the reason that you  
were 'old and deaf' - I'm kind of evidence for it: I am definitely deaf and  old 
- and still dig some signals out of the mud.....
