Thanks to all for the suggestions regarding my W6PO input circuit woes. 
I have some good leads to go on.

First of all I would like to change the suspect shunt capacitor so I am 
in need of a 5-25pF air variable capacitor. Must have a 1/4" shaft and 
plate gap capable of  handling up to 100w.  A higher value would suffice 
if I can strip some of the plates.
Would anyone happen to have something suitable or point me toward a 
source ?
