[Moon] Two-meter power spikes ruining TE Amplifiers?

     I do have experience with the FT-897 (which has same internal circuitry 
as FT-857).
There is indeed a full power spike upon trransmitting (CW or SSB) regardless 
of the poser setting on the menu.  Chip Margelli provided a procedure for 
fixing the spike on CW on 6 mtrs; it still appears on SSB.  I'm not sure what the 
exact term is but the internal ALC doesn't throttle back the transmit power 
immediately upon going to transmit.  Yaesu might have additional fixes for each 
band and mode. 
     Another option is to put a resistor pad on the transmit side of the TE 
brick after the input TR relay to calm things down and just raise the output on
