Subject: [Moon-Net] New WSJT and computer question

Hi community.

I think this is (again) the best place to ask some advice.

Today I stumbled to a problem that I know it will happen one day..

I have an old Win7 laptop that I used for all kind of ham related software.
VNWA's etc.

My main PC in the shack is an even older tower running WinXP. That is the PC
were I use WSJT on.

Keying and communicating to some devices like my rotors is done via a serial
(Com) port.

Today I tested the new JT-X version 2.2 together with Paul W2HRO on the Win7
laptop and IC9700. During the tests we saw my clock was running behind.

I use PinJockey to synchronise the clocks on all PC's. But it seems that the
laptop was very busy and lost time during the tests.

I thought it would be better to install the new JT-X on my tower. But it
does, of course not run with Windows XP. The library on XP is too old.

All computers are wired with good cabling to avoid extra noise.

All together I realized that it is getting time to start with a new powerful
system.

Ideally I would like to run only one PC that can do all the things together
that is now split over three computers. (internet goes to another laptop)

Would it be possible to run WSJT10 with a soundcard together with WSJT-X via
an USB connection to another rig?

And how bad or easy would it be to run loggers on internet at the same time
on that same PC without creating a lot of workload to the processors?

I have the idea to invest some money to a fast and powerful system, but
don't want to finally end up in a situation that this will not work
according my demands.

My shack is not very big and I really like the idea to do all on one PC with
two large screens on the wall.

And what would you use to keep the PC on the right time?

I am not a PC freak at all. Would a gamers PC a good choice? They normally
need a lot of screen handling, heavy processor load and storage.

I see gaming desktops running I9 8 core processors, lots of memory capacity
and big SSD drives. Together with high end videocards.

In my opinion the gamers do exactly the things we do those days with our
toys in the shack.

I look forward to your opinion and ideas.

73, Peter PA2V
